Newsweek has ranked Rush University Medical Center No. 75 among hospitals in the world and No. 19 among hospitals in the United States in its latest rankings for 2021. Last year, Newsweek ranked the Medical Center No. 24 in the U.S.
Newsweek says the hospitals listed stand out for their consistent excellence, including distinguished physicians, top-notch nursing care and state-of-the-art technology.
In its third year, Newsweek’s “World’s Best Hospitals” rankings compare more than 2,000 hospitals across 25 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Canada. Not only was Rush numerically ranked in the top 100 in the world and top 25 in the U.S., it also was noted as performing “above average” regarding infection prevention measures.
“There is incredible pride in what we have accomplished,” said Dr. Omar Lateef, President and CEO of Rush University Medical Center. “Our entire staff has been nothing short of amazing. We normally share rankings with humility, but today I will table that humility on their behalf, in order to acknowledge the extraordinary work everyone at Rush has done throughout the past year.”
The rankings are based on recommendations from medical professionals, results from patient surveys and key medical performance indicators. U.S. hospitals also were awarded as best hospitals for infection prevention if they performed above the national average based on six different measures.
Developed in partnership with global data research company Statista Inc., Newsweek analyzed quality and patient satisfaction information from 25 different countries, including the United States, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and United Kingdom.
