Hurricane Dorian: WIU Meteorologist Available to Discuss Storm

From Dr. Marcus Büker, Associate Professor of Meteorology, Western Illinois University. To schedule an interview, contact Dr. Büker directly at ml-buker@wiu.edu.

Hurricane Dorian, had it occurred in the 1990s, would have prompted a massive, and unnecessary, evacuation of most of south Florida given its track over the past week. Given advances in the science of meteorology and numerical prediction; however, most forecasters agreed nearly a week in advance that Dorian would stall over the Bamahas, then turn north and parallel the Atlantic Coast.

Dr. Buker’s research focuses on atmospheric vortices and vortex-interactions, as well as transport between the troposphere and stratosphere.
