How Will the Election Affect Regulation? Rutgers Expert Available for Comment

Rutgers scholar Stuart Shapiro, an expert on federal and state regulating powers and former policy analyst at the U.S. Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, is available to comment on how regulation may be affected by the outcome of the election.

“The legacy of the Trump deregulatory initiatives are on the ballot in November,” said Shapiro. “Many of these initiatives have been challenged in court and quite a few have been reversed. That means a second Trump administration can defend its initiatives and take a second crack at those that courts have struck down. Or a Biden administration can decide to reverse the Trump deregulatory push and perhaps restore those Obama administration regulations that have either not been enforced or have been suspended by the succeeding Trump administration.”

Shapiro is a professor and associate dean of faculty at Rutgers’ Bloustein School of Public Policy. He previously worked at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget under presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
