Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center Announces new Chief Operating Officer

MONTCLAIR, New Jersey (April 26, 2020) – Alec Grabowski has been named chief operating officer (COO) for Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center.  He replaces Tim O’Brien, who was promoted to chief executive officer in August 2020.

Grabowski comes to Mountainside Medical Center with over a decade of healthcare leadership experience in a variety of hospital settings including; United Health Services in Binghamton, NY, Evolent Health and WellStar Health System, located in Atlanta, Georgia.  Most recently, he served as chief operating officer at Hospital Corporation of America’s Summerville Medical Center, where he also served as interim hospital president. While at Summerville, his leadership resulted in improved patient experience, increased employee engagement, expansion of the hospital’s campus totaling over $150 million, and significant surgical volume growth in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Alec brings a breadth of experience in healthcare operations to this role,” said Tim O’Brien, CEO of Mountainside Medical Center. “His expertise will enhance our ability to increase the range and scope of services available at our community hospital, and we are excited to have him on board.”

Grabowski earned a master’s degree in Business Administration and Healthcare Administration from Georgia State University in Atlanta Georgia, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Kennesaw State University, in Kennesaw, Georgia. He served as Vice Chair of Healthcare for the United Way of Broome County, NY and was recognized by Press Connects and Suny Broome, in Binghamton, NY, for career success.

Originally from upstate New York, Grabowski looks forward to returning to the New York metropolitan area to be closer to family and friends.
