The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) has announced its FSMB 2020 Virtual Education Program – a series of online presentations on topics of interest to medical regulators and licensees that will launch on July 14. The first presentation in the series, titled “Where Will the Empowered Health Care Consumer Lead Us?” will feature John Whyte, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Officer of WebMD.
The Virtual Education Program was developed after the FSMB’s 2020 Annual Meeting in San Diego was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program will offer online speaker presentations and educational content that was originally scheduled for the San Diego meeting. Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits will be available for participation in the program.
Six online presentations are planned, which will be offered during July, August and September, including a special event hosted by the FSMB Foundation on August 5th that will feature New York Times reporter and author Megan Twohey, whose coverage of the Harvey Weinstein case earned her a Pulitzer Prize.
Following Dr. Whyte’s kick-off presentation on July 14, other topics in July, August and September will include “Achieving Regulatory Excellence in a World of Advanced Technologies and Complex Risks,” “Physician Sexual Misconduct: FSMB Policy Proposals,” “New Developments in Telemedicine,” “Ensuring Fairness in Medical Regulation: Can Implicit Bias Be Overcome?” and “Physician Stress and Burnout in the Age of COVID.”
As a part of the Virtual Education Program, the FSMB and Administrators in Medicine (AIM) will co-host a virtual version of the Spotlight Poster Hall, which was launched at last year’s FSMB Annual Meeting. This year’s Spotlight Poster Hall will present posters online, highlighting research and policy initiatives by state medical boards and health care organizations.
