August 20, 2020 – Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research® (CORR), a leading peer-reviewed orthopaedic journal, and the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society (JRGOS) today announced a new collaboration making CORR® the official journal of the JRGOS and its more than 450 members. The collaboration aims to keep the issue of racial diversity in orthopaedic surgery front of mind among CORR’s readers and the patients whom they treat.
Devoted to disseminating new and important orthopaedic knowledge, Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research is a leading peer-reviewed orthopaedic journal. CORR brings readers the latest clinical and basic research and informed opinions that shape today’s orthopaedic practice, thereby providing an opportunity to practice evidence-based medicine. With contributions from leading clinicians and researchers around the world, they aim to be the premier journal providing an international perspective advancing knowledge of the musculoskeletal system.
The J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society is a pluralist multicultural organization designed to meet the needs of under-represented minority orthopaedic surgeons and to advance the ideals of excellent musculoskeletal care for all patients with particular attention to underserved groups. JRGOS’s mission is to increase diversity in the orthopaedic profession and promoting the highest quality of musculoskeletal care for all people. The collaboration will further support that purpose by giving JRGOS members a more significant role in the reviewing process for CORR’s peer-reviewed clinical research and opinion articles.
“We are honored to serve as the official publication of the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society and to be affiliated with such a historic, multicultural orthopaedic organization,” said Seth S. Leopold, MD, Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. “With this collaboration, we are excited to bring even more JRGOS members onto the CORR team to further broaden the already diverse perspectives represented in the journal and foster increased diversity in orthopaedic research. We’re delighted to start working on a number of projects that are important both to JRGOS and to CORR.”
JRGOS members will have access to CORR’s innovative reviewer tools to join the journal’s database of more than 6,000 peer reviewers and assess studies on a wide range of topics. As JRGOS members become more involved in peer-reviewing, they will have the opportunity to rise to positions on CORR’s editorial board.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for the members of the JRGOS to share their thoughts, expertise, life experiences, and perspectives on healthcare disparities, culture componence care, and topics addressing diversity such as unconscious and implicit bias,” said Eric W. Carson, MD, FAAOS, FAOA, and President of the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society. “This can be a learning and teaching experience for all.”
The collaboration between CORR and JRGOS also includes the establishment of a liaison editor to represent JRGOS on CORR’s editorial board and masthead and the introduction of a quarterly column from a JRGOS member focused on matters relevant to racial equity in orthopaedic surgery and medicine.
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research (CORR) is published in the Lippincott portfolio by Wolters Kluwer.
