November 18, 2020 – Ottawa, Ontario – On Tuesday, November 17, the United Nations released the UN Research Roadmap on the COVID-19 Recovery, which seeks to leverage the power of science to support recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and promote a more equitable, and sustainable future.
Dr. Steven J. Hoffman, Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health, led the development of the Roadmap at the invitation of the UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed. The process involved engaging 38 research funding organizations and consulting with more than 250 experts.
Dr. Hoffman will provide an overview of the research priorities in the Roadmap and discuss how socio-economic recovery efforts for COVID-19 can be designed to stimulate equity, resilience, sustainability and progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. He will be joined by Annemarie Hou, Executive Director of the UN Office of Partnerships, and Christian Salazar Volkmann, Regional Director, UN Development Coordination Office.
