This week, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) published a final recommendation statement on expanding screening for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in all adolescents and adults ages 18 to 79. In an accompanying editorial published in JAMA, Camilla S. Graham, MD, MPH, Infectious Disease Specialist at BIDMC, makes the case for universal HCV infection screening in all adults aged 18 to 79 years, regardless of known risk factors as well as for teens who engage in injection drug use. The expansion to universal screening is also strongly endorsed by Michael Curry, MD, Medical Director of the Liver Transplantation Program at BIDMC. Both experts are available for interview on this important public heath topic.
