Virtual ISPOR 2020 Program and Speakers Announced

Lawrenceville, NJ, USA—April 27, 2020—ISPOR—The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) announced today the program and speakers for Virtual ISPOR 2020. The Society redesigned its annual, international conference as a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Virtual ISPOR 2020, “HEOR: Advancing Evidence to Action,” will feature the sessions planned for the live event that had been scheduled in Orlando, FL, USA. The virtual conference is offering more than 60 hours of content that registrants can attend live and/or on demand for 30 days after the conference concludes.

Virtual ISPOR 2020 plenary sessions will include:

Plenary 1: Health Policy—Designing For the Future May 18, 2020  9:00AM – 10:30AM EDT (13:00 – 14:30 UTC) The World Health Organization reports that one third of the world population lacks access to medicines, vaccines, and other essential health products; threatening lives and risking the emergence of other diseases and health-related effects, such as the antimicrobial resistance. With the growing realization that health is not exclusively a cost issue, rather it is an investment for the future, this multistakeholder panel of experts will share health policy insights from both sides of the Atlantic. Speakers include:

  • Moderator: Dana Goldman, PhD; University of Southern California; Los Angeles, CA, USA
  • Margaret Anderson, MA; Deloitte Consulting LLP; Washington, DC, USA

Plenary 2: HEOR and Clinical Decision Making—Advancing Meaningful Progress May 19, 2020  |  12:30PM – 2:00PM EDT (16:30 – 18:00 UTC) The rise of big data and artificial intelligence bring wide-ranging opportunities for HEOR to become a relevant part of clinical decision making. In this plenary, panelists will explore data-driven, collaborative approaches to clinical decision making and ways that HEOR could strengthen health service delivery and enhance the patient experience.

  • Moderator: Jan Hansen, PhD; Genentech; South San Francisco, CA, USA
  • Marc Boutin, JD; National Health Council; Washington, DC, USA
  • Rachael Callcut, MD, MSPH; University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center; San Francisco, CA, USA

The expert panel will discuss the underlying methods of these approaches and their potential for use in healthcare decision making. Speakers include:

  • Moderator: Deborah Freund, MA, MPH, PhD; Claremont Graduate University; Claremont, CA, USA

An additional preconference session on COVID-19 is being held and will be made available free to both ISPOR members and nonmembers. This session will focus on the rapidly evolving global COVID-19 crisis with panelists discussing HEOR perspectives, insights, and the implications for short-term and long-term healthcare decisions. The session will open with a keynote address, “COVID-19: Accelerating the Evidence to Inform Our Response.”

  • Keynote Speaker: Mark McClellan, MD, PhD; Director, Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy, Washington, DC, USA
