Vinicius Rosa named 2021 recipient of the IADR Young Investigator Award

Alexandria, Va., USA – The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Vinicius Rosa, National University of Singapore Faculty of Dentistry, as the 2021 recipient of the IADR Young Investigator Award. Rosa was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the virtual 99th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, held in conjunction with the 50th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) and the 45th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR), on July 21-24, 2021.

Rosa is an Associate Professor and the Vice-Dean for Research in the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Dentistry and is the Director of the National University Centre for Oral Health Singapore Research and Innovation Centre. He received his D.D.S. from the University of Passo Fundo, Brazil, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo, Brazil.

Rosa’s research focuses on the development and uses of atomically thin materials for biomedical applications, taking advantage of his expertise in both material sciences and biology, to create a niche of atom-thick materials for dentistry and orthopedics. His research projects blend high-end technologies for material production and characterization to several techniques for molecular biology. Recent efforts have shown that scaffolds and films made of atom-thick materials can enhance the neurogenic and induce spontaneous osteogenic differentiation of cells. He also works in the field of dental pulp regeneration, developing strategies to promote dental pulp regeneration and cell-based platforms to evaluate the bioactivity of dental materials.

Rosa is an Editorial Board member of the Journal of Dental Research, a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Journal of Endodontics, Associate Editor for Journal of Prosthodontics and Editorial Board member for Dental Materials and JADA Foundational Science. He received the 2017 IADR-APR Unilever Hatton Award. He also received the 2021 IADR Stephen Bayne Mid-Career Award that recognizes IADR members who have demonstrated significant contribution to the science and application of dental materials research by their mid?career.

The IADR Young Investigator Award, supported by P&G Professional Oral Health, Crest + Oral-B, is designed to stimulate basic research in all dental disciplines. The recipient must be within 10 years of completing his/her last terminal degree at the time of the submission deadline. The award consists of a monetary award and a plaque and is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards, one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR. Winners of the IADR Young Investigator Award also serve a two-year term on the IADR Board of Directors. Rosa will begin his term at the conclusion of the IADR/AADR/CADR General Session.
