“The rankings reflect the tireless efforts of our physicians, nurses, caregivers and volunteers in providing care to patients with the most serious and complex needs. We thank them for their hard work and dedication that have made this achievement possible, and for their unwavering support during these unusual times for our mission: To Heal. To Teach. To Discover,” said Thomas F. Zenty III, Chief Executive Officer of University Hospitals.

For the 2020-21 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 16 specialties, 10 procedures and conditions. In the 16 specialty areas, 134 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized best regional hospitals based on high performing rankings across multiple areas of care.

“We are proud to be ranked among the best in Ohio and the U.S.,” said Daniel Simon, MD, President of UH Cleveland Medical Center, and Chief Clinical and Scientific Officer for UH.  “We have a dedicated team of caregivers who excel in the care of our patients while also teaching the next generation of doctors and nurses, and making advances in medical research.”

Cliff Megerian, MD, President of UH, said, “I see great things for UH Cleveland Medical Center and the UH system in the coming year, as we work to manage the Covid pandemic and continue to care for patients and their medical needs.  Northeast Ohioans should be proud of UH and the healthcare quality that exists in this region.”

“For more than 30 years, U.S. News & World Report has been helping patients, along with the help of their physicians, identify the Best Hospitals in an array of specialties, procedures and conditions,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “The hospitals that rise to the top of our rankings and ratings have deep medical expertise, and each has built a track record of delivering good outcomes for patients.”

The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

Last month, U.S. News & World Report ranked UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital among America’s Best Children’s Hospitals in eight pediatric specialties, four of which rank in the top 25. UH Rainbow’s ranked medical and surgical specialties include orthopedics, pulmonology, diabetes & endocrinology, cancer, urology, neonatology, nephrology, and gastroenterology & GI surgery.
