U of R environmental economist says there is evidence carmakers can meet stricter emissions policy

Dr. Nicholas Reksten is an environmental economist at the University of Redlands who can speak on the impact of the Trump Administration’s attempt to roll back fuel economy and vehicle emissions standards, and how recent developments, including waning support from automakers, (N.Y. Times report, Nov. 23) might influence policy. 

“We have ample evidence that carmakers can meet stricter standards when they are required to.  This is also supported by the fact that several carmakers have reached a deal with authorities in California to pursue stricter requirements.” (L.A. Times report, Aug. 17)

Biography :
Dr. Reksten joined the economics department at the University of Redlands in 2016 after teaching at Sarah Lawrence College and American University. His expertise ranges from basic economics to the economic impact of environmental issues. He is an award-winning educator and researcher with a unique focus on economics and the environment.
