Optimal Size Criteria for Lateral Lymph Node Dissection After Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy for Rectal Cancer

Description: The optimal indication for lateral lymph node dissection was lateral lymph node size ≥8 mm before chemoradiotherapy. Cancer could be eradicated in >30% of patients with lateral lymph node metastasis by dissecting metastatic lateral lymph nodes.

Description:  Extended colectomy was not associated with a survival advantage compared with segmental resection. On the contrary, extended colectomy was associated with slightly poorer survival in mid transverse cancers and locally advanced tumors. Segmental resection was found to be safe when appropriate margins and adequate lymph node harvest were achieved.

Description:  The use of transversus abdominis plane block in the setting of a well-structured enhanced recovery protocol was associated with a statistically significant decrease in length of stay by 1.5 days and a 36% decrease in narcotic use.
