More Than $1.3 Million Raised During 32nd Annual Mix 106.5 Radiothon for Johns Hopkins Children’s Center Patients

Thanks to generous donations from listeners, the 32nd annual Mix 106.5 Radiothon last week raised $1,328,335.32 for Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. The final total was announced on Mix 106.5 on Monday, March 1. Since the first radiothon in 1990, more than $25 million has been raised for the Children’s Center.

“This is the largest fundraising event for Johns Hopkins Children’s Center each year,” says David Hackam, M.D., Ph.D., co-director and pediatric surgeon-in-chief of the Children’s Center. “We are grateful to everyone who donated, as well as Mix 106.5, our volunteers and staff for making this event so successful.”

In the past, funds raised during the two-day broadcast have purchased lifesaving medical equipment, supported patient care, funded research and developed innovative tools and programs. Donations also provide toys, books, games, art supplies and other entertainment for patients, which help provide some degree of a normal quality of life.

“When a child is in the hospital, particularly for an extended period of time, life does not feel normal,” says Margaret Moon, M.D., M.P.H., co-director and pediatrician-in-chief of Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. “Funding raised during events like radiothon helps us bring that sense of normalcy to our patients, so kids can feel like kids, and enables our providers and staff to provide the world-renown pediatric care for which we are known.”

While Mix 106.5 has ended its broadcast, those who wish to pledge their support can still do so at hopkinskids.org.
