DOE Announces $19 Million to Small Businesses for Climate, Energy, and Scientific R&D

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced a plan to provide $19 million for small businesses pursuing climate and energy research and development (R&D) projects as well the development of advanced scientific instrumentation through a funding opportunity announcement. The projects range from atmospheric science and critical materials to advanced computing and accelerator technologies.

Materials Research Society Partners with Springer Nature

The Materials Research Society (MRS) and Springer Nature have signed a strategic new publishing agreement that will come into effect starting on January 1, 2021. At that time, the two organizations will partner to publish all five journals in the MRS portfolio—MRS Bulletin, Journal of Materials Research (JMR), MRS Communications, MRS Energy & Sustainability, and MRS Advances—as well as books. In addition, Springer Nature will host the archived content of the long-standing MRS Online Proceedings Library (OPL) and the MRS Internet Journal of Nitride Semiconductor Research (MIJ-NSR).

Buehler, McAfee Professor of Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as editor of the new MRS Bulletin Impact section. In this new position, Buehler will partner with MRS Bulletin Editor Gopal R. Rao and his team to launch and develop an important new section of the journal focused on publishing high-impact original research articles, complemented by review articles and a strong set of editorial content. His tenure begins October 1.
