With a $126 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, a multi-institution team of researchers at UC San Diego, Salk Institute and elsewhere has launched a new Center for Multiomic Human Brain Cell Atlas to describe human brain cells in unprecedented detail over a lifetime.
The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai has launched a new research center devoted to understanding how epigenomics influences the nervous system under both healthy and disease conditions. The Center for Neural Epigenome Engineering aims to dramatically expand Mount Sinai’s ability to conduct research in this field, facilitating new discoveries and the development of long-sought treatments for a variety of neurological and psychiatric disorders. Areas of expansion include chromatin biochemistry, chemical biology, protein engineering, and single-cell “omics.”
The Coriell Institute for Medical Research and Van Andel Institute (VAI) have been awarded a prestigious Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (or SPORE) grant from the National Cancer Institute (award P50CA254897). The five-year grant valued at an estimated $12.4 million will support nearly 20 scientists as they work to improve epigenetic therapies for cancer. The project is co-led by Coriell’s President and CEO Jean-Pierre Issa, MD, Van Andel Institute’s Chief Scientific Officer Peter A. Jones, PhD, DSc (hon), and Johns Hopkins University and VAI’s Stephen Baylin, MD.
Diverse teams across University of California San Diego, with collaborators elsewhere, have received two 5-year grants totaling $14.3 million from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Common Fund to continue their work as a 4D Nucleome Research Hub and Center.
