UrduUniversity Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center is celebrating the grand opening of its Phase 2 expansion with a program and tours for lead project donors on Friday, June 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. and for the community on Saturday, June 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. UH Ahuja Phase 2 will be in full operation for patient services later in June, with the new, expanded Emergency Department opening June 5 and additional services opening June 27. The $236 million project is expected to bring more than 500 new jobs to the community. The medical center’s footprint has almost doubled in size with the addition of a 222,000 sq. ft., three-story hospital pavilion addition and 76,200 sq. ft. UH Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute.

Cancer Symptom Algorithm Presented in JNCCN Can Aid Doctors in Predicting Patients at Risk for Unplanned Emergency Visits

UCLA researchers and colleagues who analyzed electronic health records found that there was a significant increase in patients with coughs and acute respiratory failure at UCLA Health hospitals and clinics beginning in late December 2019, suggesting that COVID-19 may have been circulating in the area months before the first definitive cases in the U.S. were identified. This sudden spike in patients with these symptoms, which continued through February 2020, represents an unexpected 50% increase in such cases when compared with the same time period in each of the previous five years.
