Study Underscores Social Factors of Low Breast Cancer Screening in the U.S.

To identify major social factors hindering breast cancer screening in U.S. women aged 40 and older, researchers focused on race/ethnicity, employment, education, food security, insurance status, housing and access to quality health care. Access to health care emerged as a statistically significant theme (61 percent) and insurance status was the most reported sub-categorical factor. Language was the third highest issue, highlighting its significance as an influential factor of screening behavior. Race/ethnicity, sex/gender and sexual orientation were additional factors reported.

States with the highest income inequality also experienced a larger number of COVID-19 deaths

States with the highest level of income inequality had a larger number of COVID-19-related deaths compared with states with lower income inequality. New York state, with the highest income inequality, had a mortality rate of 51.7 deaths per 100,000 vs. Utah, the state with the lowest income inequality and which had a mortality of 0.41 per 100,000.

Endocrine Society opposes Administration’s effort to roll back protections for transgender health

The Endocrine Society is alarmed by the Administration’s proposed rule to roll back protections for transgender individuals and narrow the scope of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when everyone needs access to health care. The Society calls on the Administration to maintain access to care protections for all, particularly vulnerable populations.
