UrduNew Brunswick, N.J. (July 20, 2020) – Rutgers University–New Brunswick climatologist David A. Robinson is available for interviews on the ongoing heat wave in New Jersey and the hot summer weather to date.
The worst of the heat wave is expected today, with high temperatures in the mid-to-upper-90s and heat index values exceeding 100 in much of the region, according to a briefing by the National Weather Service Mount Holly office.
“Hot times continue for New Jersey. Temperatures have been running above normal since early summer,” said Robinson, New Jersey State Climatologist and a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Geography in the School of Arts and Sciences. “Last month was the 10th warmest June since 1895, with July seemingly destined to rank among the top 10. Thanks to Tropical Storm Fay’s statewide soaking, rainfall averaged above normal during the first half of July. However, showers and thunderstorms will be necessary from time to time through the remainder of the summer to avoid the threat of June’s abnormally dry conditions recurring.”
