Rutgers Expert Available to Discuss Supreme Court Striking Down Louisiana Abortion Law

Professor Leslie M. Kantor, a reproductive health expert at the Rutgers School of Public Health, is available to comment on the Supreme Court’s ruling to strike down a restrictive Louisiana abortion law which would have limited the state to one abortion clinic.

“The June Medical Services v Russo decision is a huge victory for women’s health and a relief to everyone who has watched the relentless attacks on sexual and reproductive health in the last few years,” said Kantor. “However, while today’s ruling protects access in Louisiana, there is no reason to believe that further attempts to limit access to reproductive healthcare are over.”

“All people need and deserve access to the full range of sexual and reproductive health services.  But, here in the United States, access is often driven by where you live and whether you are insured or have the means to pay for the healthcare you need.  We need to keep advocating for science, public health, and a commitment to equity to drive our approach to healthcare in the United States.”

Kantor serves as chair of the Rutgers School of Public Health’s Department of Urban-Global Public Health.
