Rutgers Expert Available to Discuss Emmett Till’s Continuing Impact on Social Justice Efforts in U.S.

New Brunswick, N.J. (Aug. 14, 2019) – In advance of the 64th anniversary of Emmett Till’s murder, Rutgers scholar Christine Zemla is available to discuss the impact of his death and its commemoration on the civil rights movement in the Mississippi Delta and beyond.

“Till’s story is Trayvon Martin’s story. It’s Michael Brown’s story. It’s the continuing story of African-American boys who are still being targeted without justice served,” said Zemla, whose on-the-ground research and interviews in the Mississippi Delta will be incorporated into her fall course titled Remembering Emmet Till. “I want students to know the roots of this history, so they can have a deeper understanding of what has changed, but also of the changes yet to come.”

Zemla is a professor in the Department of American Studies in Rutgers University–New Brunswick’s School of Arts and Sciences at. She can be reached at [email protected].
