Register Now for Eyecelerator: The Innovation Conference Bringing the Future of Ophthalmology into Focus

Innovation is the key to success and the inaugural Eyecelerator™ Conference — a collaboration between the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and ASCRS (American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) — will tap into the entrepreneurs, executives, investors, and ophthalmologists who will bring the future of ophthalmology into focus. Register now for this virtual conference, taking place Friday, Nov. 6.

“Leadership and innovation are critical any time, but particularly in a crisis,” said David W. Parke II, MD, CEO, American Academy of Ophthalmology. “There’s no better place to find both than at Eyecelerator. You’ll hear from some of the most influential companies, entrepreneurs, and opinion leaders in ophthalmology, but you’ll also hear from people you’ve never heard of, as some of the best ideas to advance eye care and the ophthalmic industry are presented and discussed.”

Among the features of the inaugural meeting are:

  • Cultivating Diversity in Innovation The idea that management diversity is linked to innovation isn’t a new concept. But keynote speaker, Karin Schetelig, a principal at The Boston Consulting Group, yields insights on how to get the most out of diversity to advance new technology and treatments. A panel discussion will follow with representatives from STAAR Surgical, Allergan, LensGen, Inc., and Centricity Vision.

  • Rise of The Machines Robotics and brain-machine interfaces are still in their infancy in ophthalmology, but they have the potential to improve outcomes for patients by enabling digitally driven therapies. Ranya Habash, MD, and Gil Kliman, MD, will host a look at the transformational use of robotics and brain-machine interfaces in ophthalmology, featuring a mini-keynote with surgical robotics pioneer Fred Moll, MD, Founder, Intuitive Surgical and Auris Health, and a panel discussion with Dr. Moll, Reza Zadno, PhD, CEO of Procept Biorobotics, Linda Lam, MD, associate professor of Ophthalmology at USC Keck School of Medicine, and Marc deSmet, MD, CMO of Preceyes B.V

  • The 3C’s: Impact on Innovation by COVID, Capital Markets and Consolidation Understand new marketplace forces producing opportunities and challenges. Jim Mazzo, an advisor to Zeiss, will lead a discussion with panelists: Eric D.Donnenfeld, MD; Elizabeth Yeu, MD; Mark S. Humayun, MD, PhD; Gil Kliman, MD, of InterWest Partners; Jeffrey J. Kimbell; Jim Momtazee, of Patient Square Capital; Larry Biegelsen, of Wells Fargo; and Mike Giaquinto, of SVBLeerink.

  • Inside the Global Game: An opportunity for entrepreneurs to hear from the leadership teams of Alcon, Johnson & Johnson, Allergan, and Zeiss on what they are looking for in new companies.

This meeting wouldn’t be possible without its many sponsors, including Alcon, Allergan, IvericBio, Johnson & Johnson Vision, Novartis Ophthalmics, Santen, Staar Surgical and Zeiss.

“This won’t be just another virtual meeting,” said Steve Speares, executive director, ASCRS. “It’s an opportunity to network with a community as passionate about innovation as you are. Don’t miss it.”

Get a preview of this new innovation conference by attending a complementary live stream on Friday, Oct. 30, from 9 to 11 a.m., PDT. Mark Blumenkranz, MD, and Allen Ho, MD, will lead this retina-focused program. Registration is required.
