Potential treatment for endometriosis

In a study of 16 participants, researchers found that compared with women who did not have endometriosis, the pelvic mesothelial cells of women with endometriosis secreted higher levels of lactate, and in a human cell-culture model, exposure for 48 hours to 15mM of the compound dichloroacetate reduced lactate secretion and endometrial stromal cell proliferation; in a murine model of endometriosis, ingestion of 100mg/kg dichloroacetate once a day for 7 days reduced peritoneal fluid lactate concentrations and decreased the size of endometriosis lesions, according to the authors.
