New Clinical Advances in Gastroenterology Presented at the American College of Gastroenterology’s 85th Annual Scientific Meeting

Bethesda, MD (October 26, 2020) – More than 7,000 gastroenterologists and other health care professionals so far will convene virtually for the premier clinical gastroenterology event—the American College of Gastroenterology’s 85th Annual Scientific Meeting and Postgraduate Course (Virtual ACG 2020)—to review the latest scientific advances in gastrointestinal research, treatment of digestive diseases, and clinical practice management.

This year’s scientific presentations reveal significant findings and innovative technologies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of digestive diseases and serious GI-related health issues, including data on early onset colorectal cancer (CRC), the use of telemedicine for outpatient care, GI symptoms of COVID-19, inflammatory bowel disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, as well as irritable bowel syndrome.

  • What can patients younger than 45 do to reduce their risk of developing colorectal cancer?
  • How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected colorectal cancer screening rates?
  • Does spending time in nature improve the quality of life for patients with irritable bowel syndrome?
  • How do GI symptoms affect clinical outcomes of COVID-19 infection?
  • Are women well represented in the GI profession and in organizations such as the ACG?
  • Can cannabis slow the progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease?

These are some of the intriguing clinical questions answered in the Noteworthy Abstracts selected by the ACG Public Relations Committee, whose authors provide additional perspective on their findings and explain what the clinical science means for patients. Following the links below, reporters can explore these Noteworthy Abstracts and Author Insights and connect with these researchers for media stories.
