Mumps vaccine immunity in young adults

A study finds that in 71 college-age adults, most of whom received measles, mumps, and rubella vaccinations more than 10 years prior to the study, antibody levels against mumps were significantly lower than against rubella, with neutralizing antibody levels against wild-type mumps strains 6-fold lower than against vaccine strains; the researchers further found that 10% of study participants had no detectable memory B cells against mumps, suggesting a need for efforts to improve mumps vaccine durability, according to the authors.
