Media registration now open for the European Breast Cancer Conference (EBCC12)

The 12th European Breast Cancer Conference (EBCC12) will be taking place in Barcelona, Spain, Wednesday 18 – Friday 20 March 2020. Registration for media is free and is now open.

What is EBCC?

Europe’s most exciting international cancer conference is the only one to involve all the major players in breast cancer, encouraging interaction between scientists, clinicians and patient representatives in a partnership of equals to talk not just about the very latest scientific advances, but also the ethical, social, political, and practical issues associated with caring for patients with breast cancer. EBCC12 is expected to attract around 2500 delegates from around 90 countries worldwide. It is the largest breast cancer conference outside the USA.

The conference covers the entire spectrum of breast cancer and highlights what is new across fields as diverse as:

  • the impact of lifestyle on breast cancer
  • breast cancer screening and treatment
  • use of artificial intelligence in patient care
  • immunotherapy for breast cancer
  • epidemiology and outcomes in breast cancer
  • breast cancer genetics

In addition, the meeting will see the launch of a manifesto for European patients. Provisionally entitled “Why don’t all European breast cancer patients get the most appropriate care?”, the manifesto will be launched in the final session of the conference on Friday afternoon. At present, in some countries and even within countries, doctors are unable to comply with all guidelines for the most effective treatment for their patients. This is because a number of procedures, such as surgery and radiotherapy, and some anti-cancer drugs, are not always reimbursed. The manifesto addresses this issue and proposes to policymakers that paying for the right treatment can prolong lives.

Opening press conference

N.B. The opening press conference is likely to take place at 09.00 hrs CET on Wednesday 18 March and the Spanish-language press conference at 10.00 hrs CET, so please take this into account when planning your travel. We welcome the media to EBCC12. All sessions are open to journalists and registration is free to bona fide journalists on presentation of official press credentials. A media centre with computers, printing, photocopying and free local and international telephone facilities and internet connections will be available. We strongly recommend you register now rather than onsite in Barcelona if you want to attend the press conferences.
