The outcomes reported in the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients database are the gold standard by which transplant programs are measured.
Among the reported highlights are:
- Mayo Clinic in Arizona was recognized for superior three-year patient and three-year graft survival. Graft survival is a term that describes success of the transplanted organ.
- Mayo Clinic in Arizona performed at 10 percentage points higher than the national average for patient survival, including significantly lower rates of patient mortality after becoming listed as a patient awaiting transplant. This reflects care of acutely ill patients in advance of transplantation.
- Mayo Clinic in Arizona earned excellent one- and three-year patient survival rates following transplant.
- Patients at Mayo Clinic in Arizona had on average shorter post-transplant hospital stays following transplant than patients in other parts of the country. The median length of stay after heart transplant surgery was 11 days at Mayo Clinic in Arizona versus 16 days in the region and 17 days nationally.

Mayo Clinic transplant center has one of the largest and most experienced practices in the U.S. Doctors trained in all types of transplantation have experience treating people with complex conditions who may need multiorgan transplants, including heart-lung, heart-liver, heart-kidney and heart-lung-liver transplants.
More than 450 heart transplants and 312 ventricular assist device patients have been performed at Mayo Clinic in Arizona since the program began in 2005. Mayo Clinic Hospital in Arizona is also a top transplant provider in the country based on the number of transplant procedures performed annually.

The Scientific Registry of Transplant measures how transplant patients are thriving after a solid organ transplant. The organization provides numerous metrics for consumers so they can make decisions about which transplant program in the U.S. will meet their needs.
Approximately 114,000 people in the U.S. are on the waiting list for a lifesaving organ transplant, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing. Nearly 37,000 transplants were performed in the U.S. in 2018.
