Leading Lights of Electrochemistry Assemble at October 240th ECS Meeting

Pennington, NJ – The Electrochemical Society (ECS) is proud to announce that the 240th ECS Meeting will take place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL, from October 10-14, 2021. The deadline to submit abstracts is April 9, 2021.

This preeminent international conference brings together scientists, engineers, and researchers from academia, industry, and government in the fields of electrochemistry and solid state science and related technology. Cutting edge research and issues are discussed through a variety of formats including oral presentations, panel discussions, poster sessions, tutorials, short courses, professional development workshops, a career fair, and exhibits. The unique blend of fields represented at the meeting provides a forum to learn and exchange information on the latest scientific and technical developments in various interdisciplinary areas.

“While I’m a member of other societies, I attend their meetings, present papers, listen to talks… I feel that ECS, with which I have a long association, is mine… My group research focuses largely on batteries and spans both battery division and the energy technology division. The ECS meetings are the best for us to attend to meet people, listen, learn, and understand, and also present. I’m happy to participate,” says Professor Arumugam “Ram” Manthiram.

The symposium Electrochemical and Solid State Science and Engineering Applied to COVID Issues E, organized by Sadagopan Krishnan, Oklahoma State University, and Hiroshi Imahori, Kyoto University, gathers scientists across a multitude of disciplines to focus on the most recent results related to emergent viral diseases. Up to the minute research will be reviewed on the science and engineering of SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics, methods of its deactivation, therapeutics, surveillance, health care devices, PPE, and other approaches to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences.

The Electrochemistry in Space Symposium is a highlight of the meeting. Electrochemistry will play a critical role in establishing the processes, systems, and monitoring necessary to support advances in space activities. This interdisciplinary symposium brings together speakers from across a broad range of disciplines to discuss how advances in research and development for electrochemistry in space are addressing these exciting challenges and opportunities. Also addressed are how the features of extraterrestrial environments such as low gravity, extreme temperatures, and remote operations impact electrochemical processes and component design and operation. Organizers of the symposium include leaders in the field Gregory Jackson, Colorado School of Mines; E. Jennings Taylor, Faraday Technology, Inc.; Jessica Koehne, NASA Ames Research Center; George Nelson, University of Alabama in Huntsville; Ratnakumar V. Bugga, Jet Propulsion Laboratory; Yasuhiro Fukunaka, Waseda University; Santosh Vijapur, Faraday Technology, Inc.; and Scott Calabrese Barton, Michigan State University.

The 240th ECS Meeting is a “can’t miss” event for electrochemists and solid state scientists, featuring almost 50 symposia in the following areas:

  • Batteries and Energy Storage
  • Carbon Nanostructures and Devices
  • Corrosion Science and Technology
  • Dielectric Science and Materials
  • Electrochemical/Electroless Deposition
  • Electrochemical Engineering
  • Electronic Materials and Processing
  • Electronic and Photonic Devices and Systems
  • Fuel Cells, Electrolyzers, and Energy Conversion
  • Luminescence and Display Materials, Devices, and Processing
  • Organic and Bioelectrochemistry
  • Physical and Analytical Electrochemistry, Electrocatalysis, and Photoelectrochemistry
