John Kerndl joins Beth Israel Lahey Health as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Cambridge, Mass.John Kerndl, MBA, has joined Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In his new role, Kerndl is responsible for all finance operations, including supply chain, revenue cycle and treasury.

“John’s breadth and depth of experience in healthcare finance will further strengthen our system and support our commitment to serving our patients, their families and our communities,” said Kevin Tabb, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Beth Israel Lahey Health. “Throughout his career, John has developed a complex understanding of health care systems across the country, and that knowledge and experience will be instrumental to our ability to deliver on our mission to provide high-quality, affordable care across eastern Massachusetts.”

Kerndl has 30 years of health care experience across a range of organizations in multiple functional areas Most recently, Kerndl served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Beaumont Health, the largest health care system in Michigan with $4.7 billion in net revenue. In this role, he led all financial functions for the system’s eight hospitals and 167 outpatient sites.

Before joining Beaumont, Kerndl spent six years as Senior Vice President and Operations CFO for LifePoint Health in Tennessee. Prior to that, he served in CFO and regional vice president-in-training roles for three Arizona hospitals as part of Vanguard Health Systems, as well as Assistant CEO and CFO for Community Health Systems in Illinois. Kerndl also worked for Tenet Healthcare Corporation as CFO of North Shore Medical Center in Miami, and as a regional finance director. Earlier in his career, he was a practice administrator for Cone Health in Greensboro, North Carolina, and directed the operations of large medical groups in Florida and California.

Kerndl received his Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Chicago and his bachelor’s degree in finance from Georgia State University.

Kerndl succeeds Steven Fischer, who recently retired after two years as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of BILH and, before that, 15 years as Chief Financial Officer of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Beth Israel Deaconess system.
