Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center achieved re-accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. To achieve voluntary NAPBC re-accreditation, Jersey Shore University Medical Center demonstrated compliance with the NAPBC standards reviewing leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement initiatives. Breast centers seeking NAPBC re-accreditation undergo a site visit every three years.

“Once again, we are proud to receive NAPBC recognition for the comprehensive, patient-centered care provided by our multidisciplinary breast team,” said Denise Johnson Miller, M.D., FACS, medical director of breast surgery at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. “Our Breast Center meets — and often exceeds — national standards for performance, quality and safety, which demonstrates our ability and commitment to providing New Jersey residents with access to outstanding breast care services within their local community.”

Patients at the academic medical center’s Breast Center receive care in state-of-the-art facilities from a multidisciplinary team that includes medical and radiation oncologists, breast surgeons, nurse navigators, research nurses, social workers, integrative medicine specialists and palliative care providers. In collaboration with the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, patients also have access to the latest national and international breast cancer clinical trials for some of the most promising new therapies and treatments.

In addition to achieving full NAPBC accreditation status until October 2022, Jersey Shore University Medical Center was cited by NAPBC reviewers for demonstrating best practices in research and staff education. Additionally, NAPBC reviewers recognized the Breast Center for providing specialized clinics for patients at high risk of developing breast cancer, and for conducting multidisciplinary genetics and breast tumor conferences.
