ISSCR’s first virtual annual meeting opens

Skokie, IL – The International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) annual meeting showcases global advances in stem cell research and regenerative medicine that are transforming the scientific landscape and leading to new advances in the treatment of devastating diseases.

ISSCR 2020 Virtual, co-sponsored by the Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI), features more than 300 oral presentations, nearly 900 scientific poster presentations, 50-plus exhibit booths, networking and professional development opportunities and more, making it the digital epicenter of stem cell science. More than 3,500 people will participate in this year’s meeting from 57 different countries.

“I have never been more confident that because of stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, we will create a world where we will no longer have to accept the suffering caused by so many unsolved diseases across the world,” said Deepak Srivastava, ISSCR president. “We are making tremendous progress and you will hear cutting-edge science ranging from mechanistic discovery all the way to clinical trials results. I am excited about the fantastic talks, posters, and special sessions including one on COVID-19 featuring Anthony Fauci and Jennifer Doudna.”

The program offers flexibility for the ISSCR’s worldwide audience to experience sessions live or on-demand any time after the “live” premiere until 31 July. The meeting will host chat sessions throughout the program to keep the scientific conversation and exchange going around the latest scientific updates and breakthroughs. The Society also will recognize the outstanding scientific achievements of members of the stem cell community throughout the meeting with special awards and lectures.

Not only will ISSCR 2020 Virtual host outstanding plenaries, but also concurrent programming sessions organized around four core themes covering areas of the field. The meeting will host workshops from industry leaders on clinical translation, and biotech entrepreneurs discussing new ventures and investment. Special sessions cover public policy, women in science, development of the next generation, science and ethics, stem cell technology, and preclinical development of investigational stem cell products. “This year we have altered our concurrent sessions to help create the feel of a smaller meeting or workshop within our larger gathering where anyone interested in a particular area, whether it is biology of the heart and muscle, the brain, the early embryo or the blood can gather over the week to explore core themes and engage in meaningful discussion,” said Kevin Eggan, ISSCR Program Committee Chair.
