Global Consulting Program for Maryland Businesses Application Deadline Approaching

A key deadline is approaching for a program designed for Maryland companies looking to gain expertise in international expansion and global business strategies.

August 1 is the preferred deadline for businesses to apply for fall 2020 participation in the Maryland Global Export Consulting Program, presented by the Maryland Department of Commerce and the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.

The program launched in 2016 and is especially relevant with COVID-19 impacting global expansion goals and creating other challenges.

For businesses, the program offers a chance to tap into insights from the students and faculty of the Smith School’s Center for Global Business, as well as staff from Maryland Commerce’s Office of International Investment and Trade.

Under the program, student teams provide up to 10 hours per week of consulting on a particular project each semester. The students are advised by Maryland Smith’s top-rated faculty, as well as experts from the Maryland Department of Commerce’s Office of International Investment and Trade.

Consulting projects may be aligned with one traditional functional area or cross-functional areas, such as data analytics, fintech and blockchain.

The program is one of several initiatives from the Center for Global Business that seek to extend support to Maryland businesses. Others include the virtual internship program and the MAPIT Alliance webinars.
