Food sovereignty in global agri-food system

Analysis of 43 indicators of food sovereignty and 28 demographic, economic, social wellbeing, and environmental sustainability indicators in 150 countries identified 5 distinct world regions based on food sovereignty, with large contrasts in diet, food security, and environmental sustainability between groups; the results indicate an agri-food debt of some regions toward others and highlight a mismatch between countries’ biocapacity and food security, and how the international agri-food trade can contribute to food security imbalances, according to the authors.
