Contemporary Research On Bryophytes is now published

‘Contemporary Research on Bryophytes’ is edited by Dr Afroz Alam, who received his initial training in bryological research at the Department of Botany, University of Lucknow, Lucknow – an internationally acclaimed and foremost centre of research in the field of plant sciences in India for nearly eight decades. The book is a phenomenal effort in compiling the diverse aspects of bryology into 12 articles contributed by Indian as well as overseas bryologists specially from Brazil and Pakistan, covering the current status of bryological research in these countries. It highlights the contributions in the conservation of endangered bryophytes through tissue culture, the present status of Antarctic bryology, application of molecular approaches and bioinformatics to study bryophytes besides morphology, taxonomy and bryodiversity. The information provided encompasses both the classical and modern aspects of research in bryology which is beneficial to readers. The book will serve as a reference resource to both the undergraduates and graduates as well as specialized researchers in plant sciences.

About the Editor:
Dr. Afroz Alam has been involved in teaching and research since the year 2000 in Plant Science, with a focus on Bryology, Plant Systematics and Phytodiversity. He has completed his Ph.D (Botany) from University of Lucknow (India), in 2006, and also qualify National Eligibility Test in 2004. He worked as Junior Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow in All India Coordinated Project on Taxonomy under Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, New Delhi (India) till 2010. In 2010, he joined the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Banasthali Vidyapith as Assistant Professor and is presently working as Associate Professor there. He has about 150 research publications and 10 books to his credit. He has also guided 6 scholars for their doctorate degree. He is a life member of Association for Plant Taxonomy, Indian Bryological Association and Indian Botanical Society. He is also associated with the internationally recognized ‘Banasthali University Rajasthan India’ (BURI) herbarium as a curator.
