This year’s theme, “The Age of Reason for Neurosurgery,” challenges attendees and the medical community at large to remain pillars against misinformation, and examines how data-driven science propels the practice of medicine. The CNS is proud to welcome the Japanese Congress of Neurological Surgeons (JCNS) as its 2019 international partner, and Raymond Sawaya, MD as the 2019 Honored Guest.
The meeting, which will take place at the Moscone Convention Center and the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, brings together attendees from all 50 states and more than 40 countries. Attendees can attend educational courses and symposia, watch live surgeries via telemedicine technology, see in-booth demonstrations, and drop in on brief educational update sessions. The CNS Xperience Lounge will host book signings with featured speakers, presentations with Innovator of the Year finalists, and other exciting events.
An impressively diverse array of speakers are lined up for this year’s event, touching on subjects from leading in turbulent times, to health care, to foreign policy and more. Speakers include Aaron Carroll, MD, expert on pediatrics and children’s health; Lucy Kalanithi, MD, physician and caregiver; Doris Kearns Goodwin, presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author; Rebecca Skloot, bestselling author of “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks; Bret Stephens, U.S. foreign policy expert and highly awarded columnist; Shankar Vedantam, author and science desk correspondent for NPR; and Carl Zimmer, author and New York Times writer.
The 2019 CNS Annual Meeting is also the platform for hearing the latest science and research from leaders in all neurosurgical subspecialties. General Scientific Sessions will present the Paper of the Year awards from the CNS journal Neurosurgery, scientific presentations, and talks from leaders in the field. The meeting will also feature Guidelines Updates Sessions, Case-based Sessions, Oral Presentations in subspecialty Section Sessions, as well as Sunrise Science and Late-breaking Abstracts Sessions.
