Center Awarded OSHA Susan Harwood Training Program Grant

The Rutgers School of Public Health’s Center for Public Health Workforce Development has received the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration Susan Harwood Training Program Grant for the eleventh consecutive year.

Koshy Koshy, assistant professor in the department of environmental and occupational health and justice, is the principal investigator.

Through the grant, the center will develop and deliver training to mitigate the risks associated with COVID-19 to approximately 500 essential and non-essential workers in high-hazard industries, including to building management personnel, custodians, and health care workers.

“During these unprecedented times where states and localities reopen only to close-down again, it becomes apparent that in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic there is also a serious and already strained occupational health crisis,” said Koshy. “The training provided by this grant will address both of these pressing issues.”

Annually, the center trains over 3,000 students in the recognition, avoidance, and prevention of environmental and occupational safety and health hazards.
