70 Doctors-in-Training at The University of Queensland Ochsner Clinical School Receive White Coats

n Saturday, January 7, 2023, The University of Queensland Ochsner Clinical School held its 13th annual White Coat Ceremony, a rite of passage for medical students held to emphasize the importance of compassionate patient care from the start of medical training. During the event, 70 physicians-in-training received their white coats and were honored with Humanism in Medicine pins – a visual symbol displayed on the lapel of each white coat to remind students to keep empathy at the center of clinical practice.

SMFA Art Sale Is Back In-Person This Fall

After two years as a virtual event, the art sale returns to an in-person experience this year, with the sale days set for Friday, November 4, through Sunday, November 6, at SMFA at Tufts in Boston. More than 1,000 works created by some 250 alumni, students, faculty, and friends of the school will be on display and up for grabs.

There are more than 15 million US adults with a history of cancer who need high quality survivorship care. Medical provider uncertainty and cancer survivorship knowledge gaps continue to persist. Challenges exist in the transition of patients from oncology to primary care for continued life-sustaining cancer survivorship care. It is important for primary care providers to recognize common oncologic emergencies. In order to improve outcomes, proper transition and coordination of care are needed for all cancer survivors.

EVENT: Peaceful Transitions of Power – Protecting Our Democracy – October 8th

A panel discussion moderated by AU President Sylvia Burwell, featuring Joshua Bolten, chief of staff for President George W. Bush; John Podesta, chief of staff for President Bill Clinton and David Marchick, dean of the Kogod School of Business and former director of the Center for Presidential Transition at the Partnership for Public Service. The event will discuss vulnerabilities in our system of transitions of power and focus on Dean Marchick’s new book, The Peaceful Transfer of Power: An Oral History of America’s Presidential Transitions.

This event is part of American University’s Conversations on Policy, Politics and Our American Democracy series during AU’s Family Weekend.

WVU celebrates grand opening of Reynolds Hall with building’s namesake

West Virginia University will hold a grand opening ceremony to celebrate Reynolds Hall, the futuristic 186,000-square-foot business complex on Morgantown’s Waterfront made possible through the generosity of Bob and Laura Reynolds. The building is the new home of the John Chambers College of Business and Economics and its 3,700 students.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy to Speak at Inaugural Xavier University | Ochsner Health Physician Assistant Program Class of 2022 Commencement

Xavier University of Louisiana and Ochsner Health will celebrate their inaugural Physician Assistant (PA) Program Class of 2022 with a closing ceremony and a commencement. The 28-month, full-time graduate program, which leads to a master’s degree in health sciences, began in 2020 and is comprised of three semesters of classroom instruction followed by 16 months of clinical training within Ochsner Health.

Filling in the Gaps

With all that the Land of Enchantment has to offer, skin cancer isn’t on the top on anyone’s list. But abundant sunshine and a dearth of dermatologists in the state pose a challenge for detecting and treating the various forms of skin cancer. Skin Cancer Screening clinics are now resuming. The first of several new clinics will be held in Albuquerque on Saturday, May 7. More are planned over the coming year in Gallup, Taos and southern New Mexico.

Baseball legend, AI pioneer, Marine Corps commandant and comedian/actor to be honored at Tulane Commencement

Four individuals who have made major contributions in fields ranging from sports and entertainment to national defense and artificial intelligence will receive honorary degrees at Tulane University’s 2022 Commencement.

Henry “Hank” Aaron, one of baseball’s greatest players; Gen. David H. Berger, a Tulane graduate and commandant of the United States Marine Corps; Ken Jeong, a medical doctor who became one of the country’s most sought-after comedic actors and Dr. Rosalind Picard, an inventor, engineer, scientist and pioneer in artificial intelligence, will receive honorary degrees at the May 21 ceremony. Aaron will receive Tulane’s first-ever posthumous honorary degree.
