ARN Announces the 2019 Role Award Winners at its Annual Educational Conference – REACH 2019

CHICAGO (November 27, 2019): The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) announced the recipients of the 2019 ARN Role Awards at its Annual Educational Conference, REACH, November 6 – 9 in Columbus, OH. ARN Role Awards are given for outstanding contributions in various aspects of rehabilitation nursing.           

Maureen Musto, MS RN APRN-CNS ACNS-BC CRRN Advanced Practice Nurse Award

The Advanced Practice Nurse Award recognizes a nurse in an advanced role who has contributed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing.

Maureen has spent many years involved in both ARN and the Central Ohio chapter (COARN). She is the current chapter president and has been co-editor of the COARN newsletter for more than 10 years. Maureen has also been active at the national level by reviewing articles for Rehabilitation Nursing Journal and writing the APN job description.

 

Gail L. Sims, RN MSN CRRN Nurse Educator Award

The Nurse Educator Award recognizes a nurse who has contributed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing care through an academic or educational role.

Gail educates nurses and others regardless of job description or setting. While working in the emergency department, she regularly educated discharge planners on the needs of those with impairment or disabilities in order to have a successful transition to home. Gail currently serves as a nurse educator at the Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center in Vallejo, CA.

 

James R. Edwards, BSN RN CRRN Nurse Manager Award

The Nurse Manager Award recognizes a nurse who has contributed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing care in a middle management position.

Jim takes initiative to address issues and leads by example. He uses critical thinking to develop solutions, gain the cooperation of the interdisciplinary team to implement solutions, and disseminates the findings by presenting posters at national, state, and local conferences to highlight the accomplishments of the entire team.

 

Patricia A. Quigley, PhD MPH APRN CRRN FAAN FAANP FARN Doctorate-Prepared Researcher Award

The Doctorate-Prepared Researcher Award recognizes a rehabilitation nurse who is committed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing through research.  

To quote her nominator, “Dr. Quigley’s seminal leadership as a nurse scientist is evidenced by policy she has implemented to advance patient health, resulting from more than 40 studies and multi-site research translation projects across all settings of care.”

 

Elaine A. Morris, BSN RN IV CRRN Staff Nurse Award

The Staff Nurse Award recognizes outstanding practice by a rehabilitation nurse in a direct patient care role.

Elaine utilizes the principles of rehabilitation from the admission process to the inpatient rehab setting, until she helps get the patient ready for discharge. She evaluates patients while working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate transfer back to the patient’s community and loved ones.
