American Psychological Association’s 127th Annual Convention Aug. 8 – 11, 2019, Chicago

Hundreds of Presentations to Address Opioid Epidemic, Deep Poverty, Suicide, Gun Violence and Climate Change

The American Psychological Association’s 127th annual convention will take place Aug. 8-11, 2019, at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago.

The opening session will focus on the issue of deep poverty, where people subsist at half of the federal poverty level ($12,000 a year for a family of four), and will feature APA President Rosie Phillips Davis, PhD, who will speak about her firsthand experience growing up in deep poverty. The session will also feature a keynote by Wes Moore, a New York Times bestselling author and CEO of Robin Hood, one of the largest anti-poverty forces in the nation.

The meeting will also feature a series of main-stage events focusing on the impact psychology can have on two major issues facing society: Suicide and gun violence.

Room W476, Fourth Floor – West Building, McCormick Place Convention Center, 2301 S. King Drive, Chicago. Facilities will include work space, wireless connections for laptops/tablets, high-speed printer, coffee and sodas, telephones and APA staff resources. This room will also be the site of news briefings if any are held during the convention. Signs to the press room will be posted on site.

Friday – Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Registration:

Media can register for the convention in the press room, in advance online, by emailing APA Public Affairs or by calling 202-336-5700. Registration is limited to credentialed journalists and journalists who have assignment letters on the letterhead of a media organization. All media personnel must be registered and wear their convention badges while attending any convention session or activity.

Media can make hotel reservations online. 

News Releases:

Embargoed releases about specific convention sessions, presentations and papers will be sent to news media by email in late July (a week to 10 days before the convention starts) and will be available online.
