AMERICAN ACADEMY OF DERMATOLOGY ELECTS NEW OFFICERS, BOARD MEMBERS

ROSEMONT, Ill. (April 15, 2020) — The American Academy of Dermatology has announced the results of its annual election. The Academy’s new officers and board members will lead the world’s largest dermatologic society, representing more than 20,500 physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and medical, surgical, and cosmetic treatment of skin, hair, and nail conditions. These officers and board members, all of whom are board-certified dermatologists, will also hold the same position for the American Academy of Dermatology Association, a sister organization to the AAD that focuses on government affairs, health policy, and practice information. 

OFFICERS

Mark D. Kaufmann, MD, FAAD, will be installed as president-elect in March 2021 and hold the office of president for one year beginning in March 2022. He is a clinical associate professor of the Department of Dermatology Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He currently serves as the deputy chair of the AAD Patient Access and Payer Relations Committee and is a past member of the AAD’s Council on Government Affairs and Health Policy and Practice. In addition, Dr. Kaufmann previously served the Academy as a member of the Board of Directors and currently serves as an advisor to the Academy’s delegation to the American Medical Association (AMA) Relative Value Scale Update Committee.

Linda F. Stein Gold, MD, FAAD, will be installed as vice president-elect in March 2021 and hold the office of vice president for one year beginning in March 2022. She is the director of dermatology clinical research at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit and division head of Dermatology at Henry Ford in West Bloomfield, MI. She previously served the Academy as a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. She has previously served on the medical board for the National Psoriasis Foundation ​and the American Acne and Rosacea Society.

BOARD MEMBERS

April W. Armstrong, MD, MPH, FAAD; James Q. Del Rosso, DO, FAOCD, FAAD; Lindy P. Fox, MD, FAAD; Maria K. Hordinsky, MD, FAAD; and Jennifer Lucas, MD, FAAD, were elected to the Academy’s Board of Directors. They will each serve a four-year term beginning in March 2021, with the exception of Dr. Del Rosso whose two-year term begins immediately.

April W. Armstrong, MD, MPH, FAAD, is the associate dean for clinical research and professor of dermatology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. She previously served the Academy as editorial board member of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD), a member of the Clinical Guidelines Committee, and a member of the Telemedicine Task Force. She is the former president of the Sacramento Valley Dermatology Society and currently serves as a medical board member for the National Psoriasis Foundation and editorial board member of JAMA Dermatology.

James Q. Del Rosso, DO, FAOCD, FAAD, is an adjunct clinical professor at Touro University in Henderson, NV. He has a private practice in Las Vegas and is a research director at a dermatology research center, also located in Las Vegas. He has served the Academy as chair of the Environment and Drugs Committee. He is former president for the American Acne and Rosacea Society, American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, Council for Nail Disorders, and American Society for Mohs Surgery.

Lindy P. Fox, MD, FAAD, is a professor of clinical dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco, where she is also director of hospital consultation service and complex medical dermatology fellowship. She is currently president of the Society of Dermatology Hospitalists, president-elect of the Pacific Dermatologic Association, immediate past-president of the Medical Dermatology Society, and a past board member for the Dermatology Foundation.

Maria K. Hordinsky, MD, FAAD, is a professor and chair of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. She previously served the Academy as chair of the AAD Professionalism and Ethics Committee. She is a former president of the American Hair Research Society and the Association of Professors of Dermatology. In addition, she is currently a member of the Cicatricial Alopecia Research Foundation’s board of directors and a past board member of the American Dermatological Association.

Jennifer Lucas, MD, FAAD, is a staff physician and quality improvement officer at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. She currently serves on the Academy’s JAAD Editorial Board, previously chaired the AAD’s Member Communications Committee and Residents and Fellows Committee and served as the Resident Observer to the AAD/A Board of Directors. She is currently vice president of the Women’s Dermatologic Society.
